Hell or High water

                 Hell or High Water tells the story of two brothers who rob banks to save their family's ranch from foreclosure. The cinematography techniques used in the film capture the beauty of West Texas through wide shots, low and high angle shots, and a muted color distortion. These techniques serve to amplify the recurring theme of poverty, desperation, as the film shows the two main characters fighting for their families ranch.  In my opinion, Hell or High Water is a critique of the state of the modern American economy and how they take advantage of working class American citizens. In this film it was southwestern rural communities being taken advantage of by big banks and corporations, but I believe this happens in many places.  The main character Toby, is portrayed in the movie as a charismatic and morally good man  who is forced to choose unethical and illegal methods to survive in a system that has failed them.
