YellowStone
This show has been on top of the charts the past few years in the U.S. and is still in production today. Yellowstone follows the story of a multi- generation ranch family as they fight to keep the land their ancestors took from the native americans. Throughout this film they face opposition of all kinds including the government, rich white folks, native americans, and even some internal conflicts within the family. While all this is going on the plot follows the love life and relationships of multiple characters that really bring the audience in and in my opinion that's the part the audience loves the most.
The cinematography in Yellowstone works by simply letting the beauty of the American West showcase itself. The show's cinematography captures the wide landscape of Montana, this region allows for effortless shots like the sun setting behind the rocky mountains. The show also appears to use drone shots to offer a different perspective of the surrounding environment.
The meat and potatoes of this show's use of camera angles is the wide shot. The wide shot is used countless times in this series and it should be. The main use of this shot is to establish the location of the film, but I think specifically in a place like Montana, this shot is necessary to remind the audience where this is taking place. This reminder allows the audience to keep in mind that the same rules and laws don't apply where this takes place, and crazy things can and will happen in the wild west.
